“Tools”

Today I completed my first week as an assembler for a dental equipment manufacturer. My schedule has me working 10 hour days Monday – Thursday with overtime possible on Fridays and Saturdays. So far it’s been an enjoyable experience. Heck, I may even go back next week!

I’ve never done this type of work, so the first day was rather daunting. Not only did I have to learn the manufacturing processes, but also all the tools required to assemble the dental equipment..

If you knew my track record with simple “hand tools” (hammers, nails, screwdrivers etc) you’d understand my apprehension when faced with using 5 different powered screwdrivers and matching their heads with the right combination of bolts, screws and washers.

My worst nightmare had come to life!! I was a fish out of water, floundering. Had I made a mistake by accepting this job?

I sure felt I had!

Fortunately, I had a very patient trainer who put up with all my bumbling and fumbling. Training became about learning and selecting the right tool for the right job. It’s one thing to know how to use a tool, but if you choose the wrong tool for the job, well, you’re not going to get the job done.

There’s a “life lesson” in there somewhere.

What tools do you have in your toolbox? Are you a peacemaker, problem solver, a coalition builder etc? Do you know how best to apply or make your tools work for you???

Or…

are your tools growing dusty and stale as they sit there in your toolbox from lack of use?

What value do the tools you’ve been blessed with possess if you never use them or don’t know how to use them?

I’m sure you already know where this is going…

Don’t let the tools you have go to waste! There is someone out there, somewhere, waiting for you to enter their life. Don’t make them wait any longer.

I’m gonna start today.

How ‘bout you?

I love words & enjoy the freedom of writing. I strive to find the exact word to convey not only my thoughts, but also my feelings. I desire to fill the paper with words much the same way an artist fills the canvas with paint. To me, writing is an art form.
